Our hand tufted floor coverings range from area rugs to broadloom carpets. A base of synthetic fiber or cotton fabric is first prepared for the tufting process. The desired design trace is transferred onto the base. It also has a map of the colour distribution. The fabric is then stretched over a frame of strong metal pipes with spikes or nails holding the base under tension. Once it is taut it is ready to be punched with a tufting gun to insert yarns, and it looks like filling colours in a blank trace. Rugs can be made from viscose, polyester, wool, or cotton yarns, or the combinations of any of these. The tufting gun is a tool to put a certain length of the yarn to go through the fabric and come back on the same surface to form a loop or a cut pile.
It is an intense hand drawn process and requires long hours of physical work. After the canvas is filled with all the colour and design elements, synthetic latex is applied on the back to make it strong and stable. After drying the carpets (in the Sun or the drying chambers), they are taken off for trimming. The tufted piles are trimmed and shaped manually to get design clarity. Once trimmed, the rugs are then vacuum cleaned to remove any loose yarn ends from the surface. The final result of the entire hard work creates a wonderfully uniform texture of a beautiful dense pile containing crisp lines of distinction between the shapes.
